Council Permits

.

Skips placed on roads or nature strips require a council permit to be obtained. Permit charges and conditions vary from council to council. Any mini skip placed outside of private property requires a council permit.

Every effort is made to get the skip bin onto your property in the position you request. In some cases due to narrow driveway, obstructions from over hanging trees, and power lines having a skip on your property may not be possible. Therefore a permit cost will be added to your skip hire quote.

Same Day Turn Around

A same day turn around can be arranged for your skip. 24hrs notice is required to ensure bin availability and schedule requirements. Every attempt will be made to enable a same day turnaround. Weekends this service is not available.

SKIP BIN SIZES

Approximate Trailer Loads to Skip Bin Size
This chart is a guide only for your skip hire in Melbourne.
All Skip bins are not to be filled over the water level. This means level at the top of the skip bin rim and not over it.

Skip bins cannot be overloaded, it is law by Vic Roads that a skip bin can only be filled to the water level of the skip bin. This is the rim of the skip bin. It is not safe to transport skip bins that are overloaded due to the potential risk of waste coming away from the load and causing damage or accidents to other traffic users. Our skip bins when picked up are covered with a cover to ensure waste stays in the skip bin whilst in transit. Overloaded skip bins cannot be safely secured with a cover and will not be picked up until excess waste is removed from the skip bin. It is the responsibility of the persons that hire a skip bin to ensure that the waste is secure inside the skip bin, and not over the rim of the skip bin.

It is the responsibility of The Skip Guy to ensure the waste is secured before being transported to the transfer station. Should the situation arise where the waste is not secure for transporting then the excess waste will be removed from the skip bin.

WASTE TYPES

What type of waste do I have?

Use this section to assist you when deciding on the type of mini skip bin you require for your individual needs. General waste skip bin hire is the most popular type of skip hire, it is very important to read through the different types of waste that is acceptable in general waste skip hire. When disposing of skip bin waste at transfer stations all waste is charged by weight and not by the cubic meter, which means the heavier the items the heavier the price for tipping the skip bin.

It is very important to be upfront with what types of waste you intend on going into the skip bin. The waste that is collected in the skip bin is taken to transfer stations for sorting and recycling, any surprises that are found in the bottom of skip bins will be promptly returned to their owner or additional charges will apply.

Any hazardous waste and/or prescribed waste that is found in skip bins will be reported to the EPA. The owners of the waste will then need to provide the EPA with an explanation of the hazardous waste, and why the waste has been disposed of in an incorrect manner. Severe health risks and financial risks arise from handling hazardous waste without appropriate protection, please be responsible with your skip bin hire and not dispose of any hazardous waste or chemicals in your skip bin.

General Waste (light)

Mattresses & Car tyres are extra charge items, this waste type is not for renovations

General waste can contain most light household or commercial waste. The general waste skips is used to do an around the house clean up or shed clean up. No concrete, bricks, roof tiles, floor tiles, sand or soil.

Skip bin hire does not include food waste to

be placed in the skip bin.

Food waste is to be placed into council bins for collection. Waste that is placed into a mini skip or skip bin goes to transfer stations to be sorted and then recycled. Food waste cannot be recycled it must go to landfill sites. In many cases General waste may also contain green waste as long as it is not heavy ie: tree stumps, tree trunks etc.

Tree branches less than one metre long and 150mm in diameter are acceptable. Tree trunks are likely to cause weight limits to be exceeded and should not be included. No tree stumps to be included.

TERMS

PAYMENT AT TIME OF DELIVERY IS REQUIRED

Payments will only be excepted in cash, or by credit card. (No cheques will be accepted.)

The terms of  skip hire are the responsibility of the customer hiring the skip bin to both read and understand before undertaking the hire of a skip bin. Skip bins that need to be placed on roadways and council nature strips will need to obtain a permit from the appropriate council. The Skip Guy has public liability insurance totalling $20 million, and is registered with most Melbourne councils in the Eastern Suburbs that will enable the appropriate permit to be acquired. It is preferred that skip bins be placed on the customers property thus preventing any excess expense being incurred and time delays for your skip bin hire.

The hiring time of all skip bins will be agreed upon when making your booking.

3 days is the normal limit for a skip bin hire. This can be extended to meet customer needs.Should a skip bin be not ready for pick up on the agreed date an additional delivery/missed delivery charge of $50 is payable.

Skip bins cannot be over loaded.

VIC Roads has specific laws relating to transportation, waste cannot go over the rim of the skip bin. The Skip Guy must ensure the load is in accordance with all state laws, and secure for transport. If the skip bin is considered unsafe to transport the removal of excess waste will be necessary. The removal of the excess waste is the responsibility of the customer, not the driver. Should the customer not be present at the time of pick up excess waste will be left on the customers property prior to removal of the skip bin.

Skip bins must only be filled with waste agreed upon at time of booking.

Additional fees are applicable if waste does not meet the agreed upon waste materials. Acceptance of the waste type occurs at time of booking. By providing payment details to The Skip Guy on acceptance of quote, and agreeing to the waste type, consent to any further charges is implied should the waste type agreed upon is not followed. If an additional price cannot be agreed upon then the skip bin will be emptied back onto the customers property. All payments made will not be refunded due to failure to follow the accepted quote of items at booking of the skip bin.

Additional Fees means any additional Fees charged or chargeable to You because:

  • the type of Waste collected is of a different classification to the type of Waste stated in the accepted quote or the waste is contaminated.

  • the relevant collection date specified in the accepted quote is extended by you.

  • the skip collection and waste disposal costs including excess fees charged by the waste disposal facility you have disposed of exceed the agreed upon quoted weight and waste type.

  • any other fees, cancellation extra expenses or charges incurred by The Skip Guy in disposing of the Skip or waste due to your failure to comply with the agreement.

Additional fees are payable for skip bins requiring permits to be acquired to leave a skip bin on some sites

An example would be if a skip bin is to be placed on a road or nature strip.

Permit fees do not go to The Skip Guy. They are to be paid to the appropriate council issuing the permit. These permits can be obtained by The Skip Guy. Fees will vary depending on the individual council.Additional time is needed to be able to apply for a permit, therefore late bookings on a Friday will not be able to gain a permit and will need to wait till the following business day for a permit to be obtained from the relevant council.

You now pay to The Skip Guy the fees payable upon your acceptance of the accepted quote, and you further irrevocably and unconditionally authorise The Skip Guy to charge your credit card for those fees and any additional fees which may subsequently become payable in accordance with the accepted quote and this agreement.

CONTACT US

The Skip Guy can return a phone call, or email to discuss customers individual requirements for their mini skip bin hire. When placing an email inquiry it is also important to nominate a size of skip bin you would like to hire, as different size skip bin's have different price ranges. It is helpful if the customer can describe where the skip bin is to be placed on delivery. Skip bins are delivered on the back of a truck and are unloaded off the back of the truck using a hydraulic arm and chains. Sufficient room needs to be provided for the hydraulic arms and truck to be able to position the skip bin.  Over hanging branches and power lines are a hazard for unloading skip bins, which may mean that a skip bin cannot be placed in the customers desired location.

The Skip Guy will do the upmost to ensure the skip bin is placed in the optimal location for the needs of both customer and truck safety. It is advisable to have the skip bin placed on your property not only for the reason that to use council land you require a  permit for a skip bin to be placed there, but often you get friendly neighbours that would like to help you fill up your skip bin with their waste as well.

Emailing your Information

When placing your email inquiry it is important to nominate

  • Size of skip bin you would like to hire.

  • A detailed waste description for example if mattresses or tyres are to be included in the skip bin.

  • How much concrete bricks soil rocks tiles other heavy waste.

  • Is the skip for a renovation or just a tidy up of your house/shed.

  • If the skip is for green waste only. Please see description of exclusions for green waste on waste types page.

  • Where the skip bin is to be placed on delivery.

  • Waste type. Descriptions can be found on the Waste type page
